I purchased the Lulzbot with ZERO 3D printing experience. I ordered this on a complete whim and had no idea what I was getting into. I've always wanted a 3D printer, and the reviews suggested this was the best printer for a novice. Although $1300+ is a lot of money to throw down on a risk, I was willing to take it.

The risk turned into a huge reward!

To start - SketchUp does NOT work for this printer, or any 3D printers. If SketchUp is the only modeling program you are familiar with, learn something new before you buy a 3D printer. I made the mistake of assuming SketchUp would be my primary modeling tool. There are a couple free software options online. If you don't plan to model anything yourself, there are countless models available for download on thingiverse.com. I use Rhino to build my models, and the program has worked flawlessly with the Lulzbot and its software.

I am amazed at the printer's accuracy and detail. While a platform size of... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars and figuring out the best temperature can be tough on occasion, March 31, 2017

I am a hobbyist and war-gamer. I bought this printer in order to be able to print tanks and other miniatures. I am about 100 models into the process, and things are going well. I occasionally have issues printing more than one model at a time, and figuring out the best temperature can be tough on occasion, but overall, so far (three months of near constant use), it is working very well, and I am enjoying the process. Not including the cost of the printer, models that would cost me 10 to 15 dollars I am able to print for my self for a few cents in materiel.

My son and I had nearly zero 3D printing experience when we bought this several weeks ago. We got it up and running with its "quick start" guide really quickly. We've been having a ton of fun with it. Designing our own stuff on tinkercad... Scanning stuff with Occipital's iPad 3D scanner... And downloading things from Thingverse.

I don't have any basis of comparison to consider when evaluating this printer, but it's been great. My only real gripe would be, and I think this exists for all 3D printers of this type, removing items from the platter once they're done. They stick pretty strongly to the baseplate, and you really have to wedge them off the platter. I'd like to see the industry solve this so you just lift the items off. Oh, and of course, the prints take longer than we're used to with paper 2d printers :).
