This review is from: LulzBot Mini Desktop 3D Printer (Misc.)I purchased the Lulzbot with ZERO 3D printing experience. I ordered this on a complete whim and had no idea what I was getting into. I've always wanted a 3D printer, and the reviews suggested this was the best printer for a novice. Although $1300+ is a lot of money to throw down on a risk, I was willing to take it.
The risk turned into a huge reward!
To start - SketchUp does NOT work for this printer, or any 3D printers. If SketchUp is the only modeling program you are familiar with, learn something new before you buy a 3D printer. I made the mistake of assuming SketchUp would be my primary modeling tool. There are a couple free software options online. If you don't plan to model anything yourself, there are countless models available for download on thingiverse.com. I use Rhino to build my models, and the program has worked flawlessly with the Lulzbot and its software.
I am amazed at the printer's accuracy and detail. While a platform size of... Read more

Simply the BEST 3D Printer on the Market Today under $1,300.00, but not without a few minor problems!,
This review is from: LulzBot Mini Desktop 3D Printer (Misc.)We are still very much in the infancy of home 3-D printing, similar to personal computers in the early 1980's. That being said, we are now past the "kit" stage and on to fully assembled and tested models.
I have researched 3D printers since October 2012 and waited patiently for a fully assembled model that met certain requirements: Heated print bed, Self leveling, Metal print head, Metal frame, Good FREE Warranty of at least one year, Great Customer Service via phone and email, and American made quality, all for under $1,500. That is a lot to ask for and until the Lulzbot Mini shipped from Colorado in January of 2015, I couldn't find anything that matched my requirements. But I still waited to see what actual owners were saying. Then a few months ago, PC Magazine gave the Mini their first ever purchase recommendation for a 3-D Printer with a rave review. That, along with other reviews finally pushed me over the edge and I placed my order via Amazon... Read more

WOW! I would give this a 6th star if I could!,
This review is from: LulzBot Mini Desktop 3D Printer (Misc.)This is a fantastic printer. I checked this thing out pretty carefully at their booth at the 3D Printing World Expo in Burbank a week ago as of this writing and that convinced me to buy one on the spot (thanks Amazon app!). I had to wipe the drool off my chin more than once.
I did have an initial problem that might mess some people up. They have a special version of Cura that works great with this printer and their documentation is fantastic. However, if you are like me and don't always follow directions like one should, you could run into this problem. When Cura comes up and you select the Lulzbot mini in quickprint mode as the manual tells you to do, you would be fine. I, however, switched to expert mode. I guess I am not an expert because I didn't realize that when you do this, Lulzbot's startup gcode that does that cool auto-leveling gets wiped and replaced with a generic startup gcode! You must then load a profile, which they do provide. But if you don't load... Read more
